BITTER SWEET 2

It was 1am in the morning when the girls came in from one of their parties. Mary had gone to see Nick earlier before the girls had left. After which she took a nap when she came back. By then the girls were gone. Nick was a guy she met in her second year in school. Initially she had ignored him for his loquacious and excessive jokes. There was nothing physically striking about him not to mention he was skinny, except for the fact that he knew a lot of people in campus which was strange for his reputation. But there was something about him; he was free-spirited and cajoling. Her mom had called her on her trip to Nick’s house, coaxing her to come visit. But she was adamant about it. Her last visit didn’t give so much hope. It rather made her have the feel that she was insouciant to the current family situation. Besides, nothing would come out of it except seeing her younger ones and mother.  She wanted things to change. She wanted a...

THE MORALITY

Image
There is practically nothing or should I say rarely things you would hate about a girl/boy you have a crush on, on social media. No faults. He/she is always that perfect soul. Even if you find one (fault) you contemplate on it and rationalize. You begin to admire, endorse and credit everything he/she says, chats actually. From long conversations, emotions stirs up, you have a heavy heart, you spend half of your night before sleep daydreaming and conclusively you say; I think I’m in love . You begin to mutter words at yourself in your privacy most time forgetting your neighbors could be watching. The truth is…. I love it. When I think about it I smile at myself. We are all humans we can’t help it most time. Yes…. some persons can fight it real hard most especially for those who consider decency, but others can’t because of what they have failed to take note of. And for the rest, they know what’s at stake, but they aren’t thinking with their head. When I said I love it I di...

BITTER SWEET

“You are paramount to this family”. It was her father’s mantra ever since arrangements were made for her to leave for school.  “You are the first and only girl of this family, so I want you to be careful while out there…very careful”.  Careful of friends. Careful of boys.  She knew what he meant. “Dad, Thanks! But you know this is a digital era. Nothing is going to happen to me. Besides I’m a big girl”, teasing him. “I’ll be fine”. It thrilled her so much that she would be moving out soon to see the world she had yearned long to see. She was well trained and mannered. Her parents were proud of her.   Her mom was never left out in offering her own piece or rather chunk of advices. It was inexhaustible. She cooked up strange scenarios and instances of how things went bad for students in school.  Mary left for school a week later. She was free. She met with different persons and her room mates were something else. They scarcely attended classes. They neve...

THE SUN

Image
It felt like 'hell' trekking through the street of Nnebisi to my house.Though my black-alpha-shaped sun glasses seemed to save my sight, but my skin took the beat. Initially, i thought the sun would continue to shimmer. But now, it was terribly scotching than i have long felt. It felt like a vampire exposed to light and i couldn't take it no longer as my skin protested in perspiration and burn.    I ran into the shade of a provision store, less concerned about a few persons who were there. I was only saving myself until i found a better way home - a tricycle possibly. I faintly noticed a woman was staring at me with intent and a little disdain. To second check my guess, she was indeed. Before i turned my face away, she said almost yelling; ”Ahh! Why you dey run comot for sun? Abi you no know say sun good for body”? I thought it was a joke initially until i noticed that intent and disdain still registered on her face. To answer her in a polite manner - fo...

It gradually began to get dark! all alone; I suddenly found myself all the stars seem to have sunken so
